Conceived through first-hand experience of industrial workplaces, Factory examines the relationship between systems of efficiency and the human behaviours that exist within them. The drawing focuses not on production itself, but on the moments that interrupt it: conversation, distraction, relationships and personal rituals. These behaviours become acts of adaptation, rebellion against monotony, and attempts to create meaning within the repetitive demands of the 9–5 working day.
